Only two mileposts are known to survive from the Banbury, Brailes and Shipston Turnpike; both in the village of Brailes. They are unusual, being cast iron forms supported on wooden posts, something of a design flaw, since wooden posts in the ground rot eventually! This might explain why their fellows out in the countryside have disappeared. The ‘Brailes Two’ were restored in 2019 by The Milestone Society, with grateful thanks to Brailes Parish Council for the funding.
