This is one of the nationally unique mileposts from the former Stratford on Avon to Long Compton turnpike (1730-1877). It was collected some 25 years ago by a gentleman from Kenilworth to decorate his garden. We don’t know where he found it, or where it originally stood. His family have very kindly given it to the Milestone Society for restoration and return to an historically correct site along the former turnpike (now the A3400). Six of its fellows were restored in 2017, thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, and it is hoped to raise support to have this seventh post, almost certainly the last survivor (unless you know different?) to be restored when Coronavirus is behind us.
